Dead Tired

I won't lie. Chris and I are barely making it. Thank goodness for our amazing friends. And tiny green frog pants. The tiny pants definitely put things in perspective.

Late night

This is the face that launched a thousand trips to the changing table.

poop explosion vs silly hats... who will win?

i had no idea... well i had a little bit of an idea. I am now thoroughly impressed with Frankie's fantastic ability to initiate speed diaper changing marathons. wow... and she's still cute while she's crying. The other fun thing i found while Sarah and Mary sleep, i can dress her how ever i want and they can't complain.

oh and some extra photos from her birthday, 20 hrs of waiting gets you a photo with Frankie and some bland hospital food:

A New Picture Every Day

And here's what happened 15 seconds ago.

Day One

This is the first thing I saw when I woke up after labor.

Labor details: After we returned to the hospital, things got intense. The contractions continued to get stronger but there was little-to-no progress. Poor Mary Frances's head had turned itself sunny-side up, resulting in what they call "back labor".

Back labor is sure an innocuous term for something that looks like it belongs in The Exorcist. I was trying to claw through the floor. Chris and Amy were there the whole time; they were unflappable. When, early the next morning, I gave up and begged for a epidural they were amazing. (Asking for an epidural is one thing - staying perfectly still for one is another.)

After a brief nap (Yeah!), Mary turned her little head right-side-round and popped out. Nothing could have been more of a surprise; I had almost forgotten why we were there.

I would like to officially announce the newest member of the McFarland family: Mary Francis McFarland, 8lbs 10oz, cute as buttons. Sarah is asleep with Mary so i get free rain of the blog.

Labor Update

Well, since I'm chilling on the laptop, you know that labor is not in full swing.

The party started at 2 am. But, since Chris works nights, that was bedtime, not the middle of the night. No sleep for us!

At 10 am the hospital sent me home pumped full of morphine. Now we've had a long nap and a bit of food. I'm in mild pain, but not like before.

Looks like we've got a long wait in store for us. But at the end we get a baby!

Labor Has Started

Hurray! And Ouch.

Hurrouch.

No News Yet

Sorry, no Baby Mary Frances today. No strange feelings or little warning signs.

She better arrive soon, because Chris and I are eating the lollipops we bought to help me get through labor.

To compensate for posting another update with no news, here is a costume party picture from 2002... (Um, don't ask me how exactly that compensates.)

Still Waiting

Mary Frances is still biding her time, listening to YouTube music and guiding my hand toward the macaroons. (No!) We have started listing out-loud things that are better than the womb. This is harder than one might initially think. Especially if you nix "adventure".

We've been indirectly accused lately of being classy and reserved. Some of our near and dear are worried that labor will start and no one will tell them. Let me remind you that we are dealing with Chris here; no possible baby information will be withheld.

Remember how, even though smart money was on waiting six weeks, Chris was on the phone before the pee stick landed in the trash can?

I said, "We should really wait to see if this sticks."
He put his hand over the receiver and mouthed, "Do you want me to get you some icecream or something?"
"Well, yeah..."

This is how Chris always wins. So have no fear, Mary Frances fans. The dad is in charge, and I am more than usually distractable. Expect a phone call or at least a blog update as soon as there is good news!

Inducing

I've been getting a lot of calls today about the baby. Some subtle ("So....how are things?") and some not so subtle ("Surrender the grand-baby!").

No, Chris and I are not yet parents; its not for lack of trying. This week I've walked all over Greenwood, ate jalapenos, bounced on the bed, and had coffee with my friend Jessie, twice. That last one was the most violent attempt, and I don't think I will try it again till after delivery. Jessie is the kind of friend that can make you laugh so hard you fall out of your chair.

I laughed so hard that I almost threw up. Then I laughed so hard that I almost peed. Now I think I've torn some sort of ligament on the right side of my belly.

I'm stuck on the couch with laughing-related injuries, and still no baby. Thank goodness for Tylenol. Please post a comment if you have any tips and tricks for getting the ball rolling!

Happy Easter

Last night we tested out our Easter egg making skills; they are formidable!

No news

Went to our weekly doctor's appointment. The pregnancy is at 39 weeks and going strong. (If it gets to 41 weeks, they'll induce labor.) Mary Frances is approximately 8 lbs. Every day we ask her if she would like to come out, but every day she is busy. Lazy baby.

Hmmm....

My friend from Atlanta, Miss Jennie, visited this weekend. We were sitting in a coffee shop, enjoying what I thought was a companionable silence, when she said, "So what are you humming?"

Humming? I'm not humming. I don't hum.

"Nope," Jennie said, "You've been humming all day."

Do parents hum? Is that one of the signs?

Aunt Sage is Taking Care of Everything

There is not much going on this week. The baby is still kicking like crazy. Chris is still feeding me waffles, and my sister Sage is in town to solidify her status as future babysitter numero uno. (I'm taking advantage: "Sage, can you find me my thing? You know, that thing that does stuff? I think it's in the living room...or the kitchen.")
